Get to know your CCTV and security systems

A surveillance system is suitable for any environment. It is capable of capturing images and videos that can be compressed, stored or sent over various communication networks. In analog systems, Cameras generate analog signals and send them to an analog recorder (VCR). It stores the information in analog format. Compared to the traditional analog surveillance system, a digital video recorder is capable of capturing and storing the video signal in digital format. Thus it eliminates the need for conversion. Digital video surveillance systems having superior quality for video and sound data are easier to install and use. It can offer wider viewing angles and high-definition clarity for the captured images or videos. It also has several additional capabilities, such as integration with apps for remote access or accessing control systems.

A security camera surveillance system sends the video from the security camera installed in different places to a monitoring center. Thus it is possible to monitor everything in real time and record the footage to have clear evidence. So the operator can monitor everything in front of the camera and can react if something goes wrong.

Digital video recorder(DVR)

Considering a DVR(Digital video Recorder), the cameras generate analog signals and then sent to a digital video recorder. The DVR converts the signals to digital and then stores the information into a hard drive or can send over the network.

An Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) cable also known as “network cable” or “cat5 cable”. It connects the DVR with the monitoring station. The resolution of Analog surveillance cameras are measured in TVL (TV lines). DVR converts this into digital information known as a pixel.

Network video recorder(NVR)

Considering (Internet protocol)IP systems with NVR, the cameras generate digital signals and send them to a digital video recorder which converts the signals to digital and then stores the information into a hard drive. IP cameras that send video footage they take through a computer network has its own IP address and a password. NVR stores that footage.

NVR recorders record videos from the network directly using Cat5 or Cat6 Ethernet cables with RJ45 plugs. NVRs are mainly two types.  PoE NVR’s has Ethernet ports to connect PoE cameras. WiFi NVRs connects WiFi IP cameras wirelessly. So it does not have any camera ports.

Where to install a security camera?

Indoor and outdoor security cameras work differently. The choice should be done according to your desired location. Outdoor security cameras can catch or deter intruders from breaking into your home or business. Outdoor security cameras usually situate right outside your front door or around your house. It can withstand harsh outdoor elements. Outdoor security camera may have waterproof, bug proof, and dustproof housing unit so that it stands the test of time.

With indoor cameras, you can monitor your children, houses guests, babysitters, house sitters, and anyone else that is in your home while you are not. These cameras produce much higher quality images as they are normally exposed to better lighting.
