Pipe Fittings

Pipe fittings are a significant segment of the Piping System. In pipes, numerous kinds of installations are united with the assistance of different sorts of material according to the necessity. Fittings are fixed in the piping System to join straight pipes or any area of cylinder shapes. We can say that the water-supply fittings like elbow, tee, socket, attachment, reducer, and so on., are fitted to alter the course of a stream, circulate the water supply from the main pipe to different other pipes of equivalent size or lower measure, and so on. Any part utilized regarding water supply, dispersion, estimation, controlling, use and transfer of water is known as a pipe fitting

Type of Fittings

  • Collar

The collar is fitted at the end of the pipe. The collar is used to joining two pipes of the same length.

  • Elbow

It is used when a joining of two pipes are necessary. With the assistance of an elbow, the direction of fluid can be changed. Regularly a 45° or 90° elbow is utilized. At the point when the different sides of pipes contrast in size, an elbow of reducing size is utilized. This is reducer type elbow.

Elbows are categorized as follows—

  1.   Long Radius (LR) Elbows – Radius is 1.5 times the diameter of the pipe.
  2.   Short Radius (LR) Elbows – Radius is 1.0 times the diameter of the pipe.
  3.   90° Elbow – Used when the change in direction required is 90°
  4.   45° Elbow – Used when the change in direction required is 45°

  • Gasket

They are ring-shaped mechanical seals used for sealing flange joints. A flange is a plate or ring to frame a seal during fastening of two pipe section. Gaskets are made according to the development, materials and highlighted features. Significant gaskets used are nonmetallic, partial metallic and ring-joint type.

  • Union

A union is the pipe fitting used at the point where there is a need for joining the two ends of pipes. It is made up of three sections they are particularly a nut, a male end and a female end. The male and female sections are gathered with the help of the nuts. The main merit of the capacity of interchangeability i.e., the union can be changed effectively in a short span.

  • Reducer

It is used to connect pipes of different diameters.

Types

  1. Reducer Tee,
  2. Reducer elbow and
  3. Reducer socket

  • Tee

It connects pipes of different diameters and measurements and helps in changing the direction of water or any fluid flowing through the pipe. Tees can be of equal or unequal size. The equivalent tee is most generally utilized

  • Nipple

It is a piece of pipe having a thread at both sides and could be used for a short extension of plumbing lines. It can also be used for connecting two fittings within a small distance
